Here is Kate beating her drum as we begin the ceremony in 2007. The altar is set up & it's time to begin. Our leader has called us. The bag holds extra drums & rattles so everyone can participate.
We are fortunate to have an experienced fire tender in Dawn Dickson in 2008.
And here is Vernon calling us to gather in 2006. Of course, as some of us remember with delight that in 2007 when he blew on a conch to call the start of the ceremonies, the ferry seemed to answer him by blowing it's horn. Not to be outdone, he blew on the conch again, and again received a reply. That was one of the major highlights of the day.
Kimber Chard calling us to gather in 2008. With that spark in his eyes, we weren't sure what sound would come out, though.
Now that the work is don, it's time to relax.
Getting water in the cups to bless during the Ceremony.
You CAN get a high from drumming!
We have titled this
picture of a solitary wave in an otherwise calm sea:
"The Big Ear"
And we realized the Ocean was truly
listening as we honored & blessed Her.
Cups of Blessing, each naming something in the Ocean
